We have had Tundra since he was 6 weeks old. He is now almost 5. I’ve had dogs before but never a lgd. He was great till adolescence, he would pick fights w our husky lab mix & he would challenge me on occasion. But once past that phase he was great! It is important to be firm & constant ehen training. They are bred to think for themselves & will listen only if you make them. I wouldn’t trade this dog for anything. My 2 yr old has wallered, poked, hit, & sat on him & he never flinched. He has gone trick-or-treating w her & kids running around, never bothered him. He is protective w/out over doing it. He has longer hair & doesn’t shed much considering how much hair he has but blows his coat twice a year

Our adopted Anatolian Pyrenees went through a few foster families before coming into our lives; it is said that she wasn’t suited for her job (herding and guarding sheep), and she certainly does seem happier has a house dog with us. It should be mentioned that she’s a first-class cuddler.
That being said, she also enjoys patrolling the woods and surrounding property of our home at night. She won’t rest until she knows every member of the family is safely in bed; only then will she ask to go outside for the night (her preference in favorable weather).
She does struggle with anxiety at times, and especially during storms, but she’s extremely gentle and loving to all humans. She tends to be cautious or territorial around new animals, but she very rarely exhibits violent aggression toward them, and she warms up to them quickly once trust has been established.

We have only just begun with this little ball of fur. Athena was meant to be here for sure. For only 2 months old she is very large so I look forward to the size of her in the future. We want to have her as a family pet as well as a guardian for our farm. Training her has on just begun but already the signs are promising. She is very trainable in the housebreaking stage and we are slowly introducing her to the goats chickens and cows. So far so good her interest is there. She has been so great with the other 2 dogs and 1 cat that live indoors and outdoors she plays with the bassethound/ black and brown hound we have very very well they tire each other out for sure. Her nocturnal instincts have really kicked in she is very interested in napping during the day and being awake at night 🙂

He chews everything, 3 A.M. seems to be his time to find things to chew, toys etc. including pulling a 2″ exposed internet cable off the side of the house, this 2″ of cable is up from the ground so he has to stand up to get it and so small how does he see it at 3 A.M.? (expensive).
We have to keep him tied at night because of all the mischief he gets into at night, destructive behavior to say the least. Let him loose during the day and he has a never ending supply of bones from the grocery butcher etc. to chew day and night. Love this dog to pieces, he is a constant companion to my 6 and 8 yr old grandsons and my son and I during the day, he is so well trained to do obedience, was very fast learner, but the destruction he does at 3 A.M. we have no choice but to keep him tied, kennel is not an option, he is hudini..

If someone not hone he waits up for them. Very friendly with family, friends, and many other dogs. But, mess with any of us and his growl and bark scares all. Smartes dog. Grandson had a seizure in a locked bathroom few weeks ago and Cooper let us know he was in trouble. Big baby who loves to be petted, brushed and just to be hugged. Bigger baby when it storms as he is right on top of you, all 89 pounds. The shedding is very annoying but so worth the love he brings into our life’s.

He is definitely strong willed but he will lick your face off. Sometimes he gets in a biting mood but with time I’m sure he’ll grow out of that stage. Super smart! He learned to lay down and come to me when called after only a handful of tries (he loves to get treats). He gets along with our Shi-weenie (she’s 2) but sometimes gets into it with our Shihtzu (he’s 13). I’m excited to see his personality traits as he grows. Service dog

Echo is an unusual dog. If you give him a treat, he takes it to his sleeping space to eat it. From a puppy, he understood the concept of burying things, but not the mechanics – he would use his nose to try to bury things under the hardwood flooring. He also liked to eat the drywall. He’s now 2 and has grown out of eating the walls. We are still working on the burying mechanics. As a puppy we would tease him with a laser pointer, expecting him to grow out of it like my previous dogs once he understood were the dot was coming from. Nope. He knows I control it, but now it’s a game. He’ll watch the windows for sunset, then come get me to play “ready, set, go” in the backyard. He’s eager to please, considers the family to be a pack and treats as packmates, and shows excellent skills at scenting and alerting. He’s currently being trained as a Diabetic Alert Dog.

“Agent Mulder” 0r just “Mulder”

7 Months

2 People

House & Yard

Pastimes

We got this dog to protect little lambs that we are buying. He was horrifically malnourished and was purchased along with his two siblings by a woman, a nurse, who drove into another state intending to buy one pup. She saw the conditions and bought all three to rescue them. She called the Humane Society after she left the “hell-hole” and they went and took the mother dog. My son works with the nurse that bought the dogs and he immediately arranged for us to buy “Agent Mulder” from the nurse. She had already taken all three pups to the vet and paid huge bills to have them de-flea’d, de-tick’d, analyzed and put on Supplements. Mulder was the saddest dog – his face turned down and looking up at us with his eyes. I drove 80 miles to meet the nurse and instantly loved Mulder. He was 10 weeks old and we showered with love continually. I made an appt with the Holistic Vet we normally use. Dr. Friedly, in his 60’s, was an allopathic vet for decades and then he integrated Holistic/Natural into his methods and leans toward the Natural. He immediately saw that Mulder had been a malnourished pup. Thirty days later, we visited Dr. Friedly again and Mulder had gained 14 lbs and Dr. Friedly was happy. We went again 30 days later and Dr. Friedly was thrilled with Mulder’s progress. He does not even look like the same dog at all. He is strong, proud and happy with us. He literally talks to us and when reprimanded for doing something naughty (like getting in the trash), he goes into a crawling position and talks back – it is absolutely hysterical. We believe that he, his siblings and mother were probably starving and survived eating out of trash/trash bags. We are not very hard on Mulder and really reward him when he does good. He likes to lay on the tile or hardwood floor and occasionally pees on his rejected dog bed and on the blanket while in his 5ft. diameter kennel fence inside the house at night. He has gotten better about going outside to urinate. We are really wanting him to accept something soft to lay down on because winter is coming – we’re in Colorado on a farm – and the floor tends to be cold in the winter. We have all wood or tile floors and for our other dog, a border collie that just passed away at 15 1/2 years old, we always had his orthopedic bed on top of a large piece of carpet with pad underneath and covered him with a blanket so he’d be warm and cozy on the wood floor in winter. So why is he named, Agent Mulder. Well that was the idea of my five year old granddaughter who likes watching the X-files with Grandpa and Grandma (we have all of the seasons and episodes on DVDs). The dog looked more like Langley to me, but my granddaughter really likes Fox Mulder. My husband wanted to call the dog Fox Mulder but I refused to call an Anatolian Pyrenees, “Fox”. “Agent Mulder” is what my granddaughter wanted to call him and she likes the way Skully calls her partner, “Mulder”. So that’s how Mulder got his name.
Mulder is kind to the cats and curious about the chickens. We may wait until Spring before we can get lambs – and we’ll have to work with Mulder and the lambs together at that time. That’s about all I have for right now.

She is such a great dog, I live and work on a small ranch. All my life I have had rescue dogs or just gotten dogs from friends always older dogs. The owners (they don’t live here full time) of the ranch brought her home as a puppy so I have got to watch her grow up. We are together every day all day except for when I have to run to the store, She dose not like going in the truck. She use to run out the gate when she was younger but never went to far I would just walk behind her to see were she wanted to go. I have seen posts about the breed that say they listen when they want and it is so true bit really don’t we all. She is great with the other animals horses, chickens, peacocks and goats she is still young and just wants to play with them not hurt them at all. She barks at night a lot but most of the time there is something there even if it is just a rabbit. She dose dig but yet she is always watching me dig. She is by my side always weather its raining or daytime or all night for some reason. I think we both know hoe lucky we are to have each other.

We’re hoping he will eventually be able to keep all the critters out of our immediate yard. We have already encountered his natural “stubbornness” and we are attempting to be more dominant than he is when it comes to training. But, Argo is so lovable and cute and we are so happy with him. We can’t wait to share the years with him.

My dog buddy has been the best friend I could have ever asked for! He is such a sweet, gentle loving giant dog!! Every time he’s ready to play he will drop down with his butt in the air like he’s gonna pounce! He is however EXTREMELY protective of my fiance and I and our home! He goes from being the sweetest dog ever to being very scary for strangers. But we know he is doing his job as we live in the mountains. Once he’s met someone a couple of times he is accepting of them but still very cautious! This breed of dog is not agood starter pet. So don’t go getting one for your 5 year old child. But if you want a loyal and protective loving pet then the Anatolian Pyrenees is a good choice. Just be ready and have a very tall and very strong fence!! Good luck with your puppy.

Sadie is an absolute gem. She is not the breed of dog I was looking for, but I am so glad I got her. I adopted her shortly after she turned 3 months. She is incredibly friendly with EVERYONE and EVERY animal we have met even ones that have been aggressive towards her, she is very adamant on befriending everyone, ESPECIALLY if they don’t like her. She gets bursts of energy and will get the zoomies, but she is mostly calm and always wants to be by your side. Our biggest training issue has been potty training. She was completely potty trained when I adopted her, but it all went out the window as soon as I brought her home, she can also be very stubborn sometimes, but for a puppy, she is incredibly well behaved. She is very large and does like to try and jump on everyone to give them kisses. We live in a city, so this can be a problem sometimes, a lot of people think she’s trying to attack them, but she just wants to say hi and give kisses. I’ve read a lot about this breed, Anatolians definitely are not the dog for me, Great Pyrenees are a breed that definitely would have considered adopting, but not my first choice, Sadie inherited a lot of Pyr personality traits, I’m not sure where her beaming friendliness and eagerness to say hi to absolutely everyone came from, but I am very thankful for it because she comes to work with me where she meets hundreds of new people every day.
Overall, she is an all around wonderful dog. Huge personality, bright and sunshiny, infectiously loveable.

I got him when he was 4 weeks old. I have always had a strong bond with him. He loves to play. He thinks he’s this little lap dog and doesn’t realize how strong he is. He loves children. When he plays he will hop like a rabbit. It is absolutely adorable. It took us a long time to house train him. He is very independent and I wouldn’t advise first time dog owners for this breed. But he is amazing. It has helped a lot in me researching this dog breed so I would know how to handle him. We have 10 acres and he loves to walk around. For new years we had people over and fireworks. I had to put my pitbull up because that’s to much stress for her but he was loving on the other children and didn’t pay the fireworks any attention. At the parks everyone thinks he is a work dog because of how well behave es he is. Well until someone’s lapdog starts barking at him then he wants to be nosy. Absolutely my most favorite dog breed. He also thinks he is a lap dog so he climbs in my lap and wont take no for an answer, lol.

So far so good! He was housetrained within the first week we had him, insists on sleeping by our bed where our 1 year old daughter sleeps. He is afraid of the dark and as soon as dusk rolls around he’s desperate to come in and go to bed. Helps himself to the food bin if he’s hungry lol. Already exhibiting protective behaviours; he growls if the horses come charging into the yard but seems friendly to all people we introduce him to.
Fozzy was imprinted on chickens at an early age and loves to sneak into the coop to steal their snacks, wrestles with the cat- maybe a little too rough but he only goes for the cat who likes him- leaves the other two alone.
We got him because there’s a lot of grizzlies in our valley and I can already tell he would take one on if he had to.
Can’t wait to see how he matures- especially when he’s done teething- he’s quite the baby shark!

My experience with this amazing breed has been great my little girl is sweet and sassy she is very smart and hates to be told no exspeashaly by my grandpa sshe is eager to please when there are treats involved she is very loyal to me and my fiance she is already very protective and will sit and wait for a stranger to walk by she is very vocal and will let you know when she doesn’t like something time and patience are a big thing for her I wouldn’t suggest getting this dog just to leave it home both breeds are exsesive chewers and shouldn’t be left alone for more then a few hours

The Anatolian Shepard is a great dog but can be stubborn at times and is a escape artist. When we first got him we tried to have a wire fence but he was able to climb out eventually we took it down and just let him wander all day which during the summer is not much he likes to sleep most of the day in a hole that he digs but once winter pops around again he gains a lot of energy. On the property where we live there are cows which he herds he takes lots of walks on his own and when he is done he just comes back great family dog with the right training.

My boyfriend found her walking around by his job. It was January, so it was cold. She went right up to him and he brought her home. She had no collar or tags, so we put out a few posts, but noone ever responded, so we decided to keep her. She was very loving from the beginning, but has slowly opened up into such a loving and affectionate pup. SheShe has had separation anxiety since we picked her up, but it is slowly getting better. She is hard headed, stubborn, and talks a lot. Training is slow, but that is normal for this breed. The most difficult thing about this bed is grooming. Their undercoat can get pretty badly matted if not taken care of properly. Lily was badly matted when we found her and she is not a fan of brushings, so I am still working on getting it all unmatted. Overall, she was difficult at first, but is getting better and better. It all just takes time and patience! We love her so much and feel so privileged to give her all of the love, attention, and affection she deserves! Ps. She is great with the kids and the farm animals.

He is a rescue & was found roaming a 10 acre radius going from house to house for food for months. We brought him to our 80 acre farm and he has never offered to leave, he just needed a job. He is our GENTLE GIANT, he loves all the animals and all people. We have a Coyote problem so he guards all night & sleeps during the day. He is on the stubborn side but we wouldn’t trade him for the world, he is part of our family. We will ALWAYS have this breed after our experience with him, he is the BEST DOG EVER!! Very LOYAL but he doesn’t allow anything in his yard or on his property. We had an old horse die of natural causes & the backhoe couldn’t get here until the next morning and he slept at the horses head all night long protecting it, when daylight came he came back to the house like “you can take it from here” attitude. WE LOVE HIM!!!

Kodi learned at 8 weeks to ask to go outside to use the restroom. He is a year old now. He’s learned to stay by the open door without running out and staying by me as we sit outside. It’s true that you need prior experience training a large dog to ensure proper behaviors. Kodi understands I’m the Alpha Dog but he will test boundaries because he is intelligent. He loves my three kids dearly but forgets they are not farm animals to be herded but loves playing chase and trying to get cuddles from them. above all else, he LOVES being outside. He has even asked to sleep outside when its colder.

Easy to socialize when on leash. Loves people once introduced. A bit rough playing with our 5 and 6 year old kids, if they run! Have to monitor closely as he will accidentally knock them down or want to grab jacket or shirt… hopefully he will grow out of playing too roughly with kids. Mind of his own, much of the time. Will not stay with us if down at our family campsite. He strolls back to farm yard! Stinker! Lives water to a point. No swimming, unless he falls in deep part of river. Loves to wade, chest deep. Loves to go to Tractor Supply and see the clerks or other dogs, if any in the store. Never had this breed before Bo. He was a gift. Always had Golden Retrievers. Definitely not a Golden… hard to train. Fenced in whole farm yard… about 1/2 acre. Would want to follow guests as they left… run on county road. Would want to get at bicyclists or walkers as they went by. Scared me….Barks at but fenced off from them. Definitely a guard dog at night. Lots of barking at things that go bump in the night. Sometimes barks for hours! I worried he would take on coyotes or wolves that pass by on the property. Hopefully the fencing keeps Bo in and those potential killers out! He is a big love bug. Wants to lay in our laps! All 82 pounds of him.

Anatolian Pyrenees are usually very passive but have lots of energy. They are big dogs and should get a good amount of exercise. Taking care of this dog means spending time with it and making sure it gets all the health, vet visits, and medicine it needs. They can jump very high so having a fence lower than 8 feet is not a very good idea, I recommend an electric fence. These dogs love attention and playing with their beloved owners. Make sure you have everything you need and are ready for this dog. It’s not a very easy first dog so make sure your ready for it.

Oscar is very silly and sweet. He loves having his face rubbed and will use his “pyr paw” to demand affection. He does love to bark at things (birds, squirrels, cats, skateboards, unfamiliar people) but he would never be aggressive. He is pretty cuddly, especially so if he gets frightened of something. When he is scared, he just lays on top of me seeking protection. Given that he is 90 lbs., its not very comfortable but it is cute. He is also very curious. He loves to boop things with his nose. Sometimes this means he will move furniture around the house (until we got a camera, we thought we might have a ghost. Seriously.) He is also extremely smart. He learns tricks almost immediately, but will only do them if he is in the right mood or if you promise him one of his favorite treats.

Shiloh is just a big, sweet boy who loves everyone including kids and cats (except for Gunner, another of our dogs who tries to dominate everyone, and he goes after Shiloh, not the other way around). He sheds and slobbers incessantly, and can be rather stubborn when you try to call him inside, but has the sweetest personality and is so loving. Note he is a rescue – I consider the “breed” a mix or mutt, and I never “buy” a dog for it’s breed – we rescue exclusively and just take whatever comes along that fits when we have a spot open. If he plays too rough he will sometimes limp on his back leg, so we have started him on a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement, which I feel all large breeds should be started on shortly after reaching, and continuing through adulthood. I am not an expert, but a very long time/many breed dog owner who is passionate about canines in any way, shape or form. Please adopt, don’t shop, and spay and neuter your pets!!

We adopted Buttons from the pound at a year and a half, so I can’t say that a lot of her traits aren’t more tied to that than her mix of breeds. She is into EVERYTHING, eats any trash she can get her hands on before we can take it out of her mouth, barks incessantly and can be aggressive. She’s not particularly playful and is incredibly sluggish. She hates walks and resides to potty-train even after having multiple training sessions. She’s a gorgeous dog, though, and we’re in it for the long haul regardless of her behavior.

Consistently training and regular activity was necessary early on, and it has paid dividends since. He has “mellowed” a bit since he turned about 18 months old and is a good dog. When he was young, he would chew things that he wasn’t supposed to, but doesn’t anymore. Training and socialization have been time consuming and an effort worth the commitment. From 18 to 110 lbs in a little over a year; he does shed constantly as others have noted. He has had no other health problems except a bit of a picky tummy. We began working on socialization early, knowing he would be LARGE; he is VERY protective when at home but generally happy to meet new people while out & about. Has been gentle with children on the occasions he’s met them. On the whole a calm gentle giant but when he does get riled up (possum in yard! squirrels out front!) he can be scary!

She is very affectionate and very jealeous. She rarely starts a fight with the other dog but she will finish it. What I hate is having to tie her up. He’s been very lazy today. He has tried to play with my 3 & 4 year old boys but he’s a bit rough. He’s attached to my 7 month old and very protective of him. She tries to get the cats to play but never goes after them in a threatening manner. Definitely thinks she is a lap dog (but I was prepared for that). Overall, my favorite breed!!!

I am 82, and I was lonely, I went on Craigslist, put in a female dog and up came her picture, so I messaged for the to call, and the woman who owned her called me and I told her I would take her, Gretchen and her husband brought her to my. One of the best things I have done. She likes to go for walks, invest every car that parts here, she checks the tires and under it. She like chasing cars only when she is in my property of 5 acres, which she protects, she loves to dig holes and some she sleeps in them. She is scared to get in the car and until she sees something is okay, she will do, but not the car. She danced with my grandson, puts her legs on his shoulders. When I first got her I was crying on the porch, she came running up the ramp into the porch and put her front legs on my shoulder, and I knew what she said, “I am here now, I will be your friend” and that she is, I can tell her all my secrets and she will not tell them to anyone.
