Dog Trainer Recommendations? Hey guys, so this past weekend I got a puppy (8 week old Australian Shepherd). I was looking online around Charlotte for dog training programs and it seems like almost every one I could find was at least $2,000+ which was more than I’d ideally like to spend. Does anyone have any experience with a trainer they used or maybe a program they know of that is more affordable?

    Thank you!

Affordable dog training? I need some recommendations for a good trainer as it’s around that time for my pup and I’d like to iron out any current issues he has. I live in northwest Charlotte but I’d be willing to travel pretty far if it’s not the $4000(lol) that the dog wizard quoted me at. I was looking at places that charged less than $300 or around that price.

    Thank you everyone!

Dog leash aggression training Does anyone have any experience with a Charlotte area dog trainer who can help with leash reactivity / aggression?

Right now we are enrolled in a group training club and have been making good progress. We plan to continue working through these classes, but I think it could be helpful to consult with other trainers to develop a more personalized plan.

Not looking for any of the e-collar based trainings.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated

Anybody have a rec for a dog trainer? Either one who takes the dog or comes to your house? Have a 9 month old yellow lab who we want primarily obedience trained, but may be interested in looking in to light hunt training as well. TIA!

Frequently Asked Questions About upstate dog training & pet resort, 3671 sc-14, greer, sc 29651

If you have questions that need to be answered about the topic upstate dog training & pet resort, 3671 sc-14, greer, sc 29651, then this section may help you solve it.

What is the ideal age to start training a dog?

approximately 7–8 weeks

Is hiring a dog trainer worth the money?

Pet experts agree that every dog (and even experienced dog owners) can benefit from a dog trainer’s expertise, even though some new puppy owners enroll their pets in “obedience school,” while some lifelong dog owners rely on their own know-how when they add a new dog to their pack.

Is it acceptable to board your dog for training?

Be sure the trainer you choose has your dog’s best interests in mind and offers ongoing training support so that you can maintain your dog’s training over the long term. Sending your dog to training can be a difficult decision, but it’s a great option for many people.

When is it too late to start training your dog?

There is no reason to put off starting some training with an older dog, and there are some benefits to working with an older dog, whether you are bringing home an older dog from a shelter (or rescue), or you’d like to work with your own older dog.

What does it mean when a dog fixes its unblinking gaze on you?

If a dog gives a person a hard, steady stare without blinking, the dog might be warning the human to back off. Your dog might be more likely to do this to a stranger, especially if your dog feels the need to protect you. Dogs lock eyes with one another to establish dominance or to show aggression.

Is it too late to train a dog at age 2?

It’s never too late to teach an older dog to listen and obey; in fact, some adult dogs may learn better because they are less easily distracted than young dogs, even though some may learn more slowly.

How frequently should a dog be trained each week?

If you take your dog to one hour training classes, make sure you give the dog several breaks during the class. For pet dogs, training once or twice a day, a few days a week in 5-15 minute training intervals is probably more than enough to achieve good results.

What qualities should you look for in a dog trainer?

Try to observe a training class, and watch the dogs and students as much as the trainer to ensure they are all having fun. Look for someone who uses the same positive reinforcement with her human students as she uses with the dogs. She should be patient, encouraging, and respectful.

Should you say “no” to a dog you’re training?

No should be uttered calmly and should mean, “That is not a behavior that I want.” However, the word “no” can also be used as a “no reward marker,” which simply indicates that the dog will not receive a reward for that particular behavior.

How do dogs communicate the word “yes”?

Teach Your Dog To Say “Yes” First, practice with the treat in your fist and then practice without it by giving him a treat from your other hand. He will learn that the fist is the signal for “yes” after you move it up and down slowly enough for him to move his head up and down while watching the motion.

What does the dog “no” command mean?

Most dogs respond more readily to being asked to do something, so asking your dog to “Sit” and receive a treat may be an easier command to train than teaching them to stop doing something, such as when you say “No” or “Leave.”

Should you yank a leashed dog?

Oftentimes, dogs don’t understand why their leash jerks their neck, so they become frustrated, depressed, or aggressive. The best way to prevent neck, nerve, and thyroid damage is to get your dog a harness. Yanking on a leash can cause whiplash in your dog. It’s never a good idea to jerk any type of animal’s neck swiftly.

When walking, should you let your dog lead the way?

You should be the first one out the door and the first one back in. Your dog should be beside or behind you during the walk. Walking in front of your dog allows you to be seen as the pack leader; conversely, if your dog controls you on the walk, he’s the pack leader.

How can a dog who pulls on the lead be trained?

Your dog should be rewarded for walking on a loose lead by being able to reach something on the floor that they really want to get to. If your dog pulls on the lead to get to the toy, stop and call them towards you. This teaches the dog that pulling just slows down things.

How come dogs always put their heads in your lap?

The burrowing makes it easier for your pup to smell you, and since their smell is their strongest scent, it helps them bond with you. Some dogs express their love by wagging their tails or jumping, but others do so by burying their heads in the person.

Is it acceptable to let your dog walk ahead of you?

In this case, the dog should be given time to explore and be a dog either before or after the walk. If your dog requires additional management and supervision during walks, he will do best walking directly next to you at all times.
