A cross between the Yorkshire Terrier and the Poodle, the Yorkiepoo is well-known for having a hypoallergenic, non-shedding coat.

What many prospective owners don’t realize is the wide variety of colors that this breed can come in.  A Yorkiepoo’s coat is just as beautiful as it is functional!

What Colors Do Yorkiepoos Come In?

A Yorkiepoo’s coat can come in over 12 different colors and patterns.  Solid color options include apricot, black, chocolate, and white.  Black and tan along with black and white are the two most common multi-color options.

A Yorkiepoo’s color is based on the genes they inherit from their parents.

According to the AKC, Yorkshire Terriers should only come in four color combinations—black and tan, blue and gold, blue and tan, and black and gold.

The breed standard for Poodles, on the other hand, is much less rigid and includes 15 different color options.

Do Yorkiepoos Change Colors?

It’s not unheard of for Yorkiepoos to change colors as they age.  This normally occurs when a darker colored coat fades to a lighter shade such as chocolate to light brown or cream to white.

While not every Yorkiepoo’s coat will fade or change color, don’t be alarmed if yours does.  Knowledgeable breeders will have a decent idea of how your puppy’s coat may look as they grow older.

Solid Yorkiepoos Color Options

Apricot Yorkiepoo

While more common in other poodle-mix breeds like the Goldendoodle, Apricot Yorkiepoos fall somewhere between red and gold in color.  Many breeders often compare this shade to the inside of a peach.

Black Yorkiepoo

Thanks to the typical colors of Yorkshire Terriers, most of which include black, many Yorkiepoos have partially black hair.  However, solid black Yorkiepoos are not quite as common.

Some black puppies begin to fade to a more silver or gray color as they age, which we’ll discuss later!

Brown Yorkiepoo

Brown Yorkiepoos have a wide range of shades from a lighter beige color to a darker chocolate color.  Brown and Apricot Yorkiepoos are two popular color choices due to their resemblance to teddy bears!

Chocolate Yorkiepoo

While often associated with Labradoodles, Chocolate Yorkiepoos are just as adorable!  The chocolate shade typically refers to a darker brown color so some breeders use these terms interchangeably.  

Cream Yorkiepoo

Cream Yorkiepoos have an off-white coat with a bit of a yellow tint to it.

Depending on the shade, many people often confuse cream colored Yorkiepoos with white ones!  While different colors, it’s understandable as some cream pups will eventually fade to white.

There are other similar terms such as tan Yorkiepoos, blonde Yorkiepoos, and gold Yorkiepoos.  While these colors can mean slightly different things to different people, for the purposes of this breed they’re fairly interchangeable.

Red Yorkiepoo

Often confused with apricot, red Yorkiepoos have a distinct, dark coloring to them that resembles the coat of an Irish Setter.  That being said, sometimes the lines can get blurred between these two shades as many Yorkiepoos with red coats fade into apricot over time.

Silver Yorkiepoo

Also described as gray Yorkiepoos, silver Yorkiepoos can either be born with this coloring or have faded from black.

White Yorkiepoo

While White Yorkiepoos are adorable, keep in mind that you’ll have to deal with some minor annoyances like tear stains and muddy paws.  While helpful for any dog owner, if you choose this color, make sure to get a MudBuster paw cleaner!

Black and White Yorkiepoo

A popular combination amongst lots of doodle breeds like the Goldendoodle, Labradoodle, and Sheepadoodle, black and white Yorkiepoos come in two varieties.

There are those with a black base and white patches as well as parti Yorkiepoos which have a white base and black patches.

Merle Yorkiepoo

A merle Yorkiepoo isn’t a color but rather a pattern of lighter and darker shades of a color.  This creates a majestic, speckled effect across their coat.

There are two common types of merle coats.  “Blue merle” is shades of black and white giving it a blueish tint while “liver merle” has shades of red.

Parti Yorkiepoo

“Parti” is short for “particularly colored.”  For a dog to qualify as a parti Yorkiepoo, it has to have a coat that is at least 50% white with patches of one or more other secondary colors.  

While black and white parti Yorkiepoos are the most common type, there are also brown and white, cream and white, apricot and white, etc.

Traditional Yorkiepoo Color Combinations

Thanks to the genes of the Yorkshire Terrier, these are probably the most common Yorkiepoo color combinations.  These combinations include blue and gold, black and gold, and black and tan Yorkiepoos.

All of these colors can look very similar to a casual observer, but there are slight differences breeders are quick to point out.

Which Yorkiepoo Color is Best for You?

There are lots of factors to take into consideration when choosing a Yorkiepoo puppy!  How big they’ll get, what generation they are, and their cost are all important to consider.

One way that Yorkiepoo colors can factor into your decision more than simply personal preference is when it comes to price.  Rare, intricate coat patterns can often cost much more than basic, traditional colors.

Maybe you have your heart set on a particular color.  That’s great!  Just keep in mind, colors can fade as your pup grows up so don’t set yourself up for disappointment.

If you can’t choose between a few different colors, I don’t blame you.  They’re all adorable!  In fact, this is probably a good thing, as you can focus on selecting your puppy based on personality rather than appearance.
